Jordan's Interior Minister, Mazen Al-Faraya, has directed administrative governors to take legal and administrative measures against those who fire gunshots during the electoral process, in accordance with the Firearms and Ammunition Law, which criminalizes the discharge of firearms without a valid reason.

In a statement released on Sunday, Al-Faraya emphasized the importance of binding offenders to legal guarantees and not releasing them until the designated periods have passed. He highlighted that this uncivilized and socially unacceptable behavior poses a threat to citizens' lives and property, leading to fatalities, injuries, and distress for those involved. The minister stressed that these actions aim to protect the lives of Jordanians in their communities.

During a meeting with governors, Al-Faraya underscored the necessity of taking legal actions against individuals who organize vehicle convoys in violation of the current traffic laws, which disrupt traffic flow and necessitate legal accountability.

He also pointed out that the ministry's role is to maintain security and public order, preventing any violations to enable the Independent Election Commission to fulfill its responsibilities. This is crucial for ensuring the success of the democratic process and carrying out this constitutional duty.

On September 10, Jordanians will head to the polls to elect members of the 20th House of Representatives.
